NCEA Level 1 Dance
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Ms T. Ellis
Students learn and perform several different styles of dance in this course. They also learn how to choreograph sequences using the elements and choreographic devices of dance in groups. There is a written exam at the end of the year that requires analyzing a dance that they will have studied in class. Internal assessments are all performances as this is a practical based subject.
Course Overview
Term 1
Ensemble choreography taught by teacher and performance of a specific style of dance.
Term 2
Composition of first group choreography and performance of a second style of dance. Complete term by choreographing second group dance.
Term 3
Annual showcase and performance of third specific style of dance. Complete term by studying and analyzing a choreography for exams.
Term 4
Exam revision.
Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
$20 for outside dance tutors. Students are also expected to have the new Burnside Dance uniform which consists of a long or short sleeve t shirt and anything black on the lower half- tights, shorts, pants.
