NCEA Level 2
This course provides students with a chance to delve deeper into their skills as a performer and the stories and ideas they wish to present to the world. Confidence, creativity and working in groups are explored through scripts, devised pieces and improvisation.
Students will study one of the most famous playwrights, William Shakespeare. With a focus on Elizabethan Theatre features within the play Macbeth. Students will be responsible for seeing a script through to performance, they will take responsibility for the technical, and directorial processes as well as the acting. The final product will be shown in Aurora, and open to the public. The arts in combination will also be examined with students working in groups to devise with the extensive Burnside Highs School Art collection as the stimulus.
This course is designed in a way to act as a steppingstone into Level Three Drama


Course Overview
Term 1
Students will study Elizabethan Theatre, with a focus on Macbeth. They will apply features of the theatre form for a performance in groups. This is a individual grade.
Term 2
Students will prepare and perform a play for a public audience. This is an individual grade.
Term 3
Students will work in groups to devise a performance based on a well known art work. Students will be introduced to the technologies of theatre including lighting, sound and costume. This is a group grade.
Term 4
Students will prepare for the external examination.
Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
$15 for life theatre viewing required for the external examination
Recommended Prior Learning
At least a Merit in AS91515 and 4 External Credits or at the discretion of the HOD.A high level of fluency in English is advisable.
