Course Outline
NCEA Level 1 Commerce Business and Accounting will give students a broad understanding of two Commerce disciplines within the context of organisations of Aotearoa New Zealand. As an overarching approach, students will use, explore and apply Accounting and Business concepts in a course that allows ākonga to run their own business enterprises to gain first hand knowledge, skills, and values they need to navigate, and participate in, and appreciate their place in the economic world.
Alongside the theoretical understanding of businesses and organisations. Students will also learn how to ideate, structure and form a business or social enterprise. The theoretical understanding is underpinned by a practical aspect of running a hypothetical small enterprise, guided by business concepts and accounting principles. Students will engage as participants in the economic world who make decisions, and analyse how these decisions impact their income / wealth and the wider community.
Through their theoretical and practical understanding from the course, students will consider the process of organisational financial decision making, explore decisions around price determination and the implication to stakeholders, evaluate the effect of external influences on businesses interdependent within the economy, and explore the resulting impact of financial viability.
