NCEA Employment Skills

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mrs R. Knights

This course develops employability skills linked to practical work experience.

It offers the opportunity to develop students' career pathways and the skills needed to succeed in the workplace.

This is a mixed level course and it will allow students to work through a learning plan based on their own academic needs and career interests. This course develops the career management competencies: know yourself, explore opportunities, decide and act. Students will identify possible career pathways and investigate options for tertiary study and employment. There is an emphasis on job seeking skills, the responsibilities and expectations of both a good employee and a good employer, and employment trends. Other topics include income, taxation, budgeting, communication skills, and working in a team. Students will be enrolled in 20 credits and these will vary depending on the level they are working at. Students will also have the opportunity to complete a work experience placement and complete an additional 20 credit customer service award.
