Year 10 Food Technology

Course Description

Students will work from a design brief to develop practical food outcomes. This will include Food Product Design and will involve the knowledge of ingredients and formulation of initial concepts through to completed prototypes. Knowledge, experimentation and practical skills will be emphasised throughout the course. Students will explore the nature of technology and how it relates to the food they consume and the way it is developed and prepared. The fundamentals of safe, hygienic food preparation and nutritional knowledge will also be covered.

Food Technology aims to give the student an appreciation of the technological cycle through the food context. Students will also develop essential skills in safe food preparation and wise food choices for nutritional benefit.

Year 10 Food Technology leads to further courses in Years 11, 12 and 13 Food Technology, Hospitality and Food and Nutrition. Career opportunities include all aspects of the Food Technology, culinary design, nutritional health, food services and hospitality industries.


This is a Year 10 optional course.

Contributions and Equipment/Stationery

In addition to stationery, there is a $45.00 fee for dry ingredients and other provisions which the school supplies. Students must also contribute perishable ingredients for weekly practical lessons.
