DVC (formerly known as Graphics or Tech Drawing) develops develop creative skills and problem solving. It involves students completing individual projects the cover both Product Design and Architecture. Skills learnt include generic design, freehand sketching, instrumental drawing and CAD (Computer Aided Design). Students will also be required to produce rapid prototypes and/or models of their completed designs using traditional methods as well as 3D printers and laser cutting.
This subject gives students a solid foundation in communicating their designs and thinking visually. It prepares them for Level 1 NCEA. DVC (Graphics) progresses through to Level 3 and is a UE approved subject. It is a subject that has strong career and vocational links in engineering, construction, architecture and design.
This is a Year 10 optional course.
Stationery and drawing instruments are required at a cost of approximately $35.00 for the complete kit. Items required will be listed on the stationery list. There is also a course fee of approximately $10.00 for coloured card and other materials supplied by the school.
