Teacher in Charge: Mr C. Burr
The Materials Technology course incorporates both design and practical elements and is open to all students. It provides the opportunity to develop a broad knowledge in material use, techniques and skills in all workshop areas.
Students taking this course will design and manufacture several projects using a variety of materials including wood, metal and acrylic. In addition to using traditional tools and machinery there will also be a focus on implementing new technologies at this level to prepare students for NCEA. These include CAD/CAM, CNC routing, CNC Plasma, laser cutting and 3D printing.
Materials Technology aims to give the student an appreciation of design and a broad skills base. This subject leads on to a variety of University Entrance and/or Vocational courses involving design, materials and manufacturing in Years11, 12 and 13.
This is a Year 10 optional course.
A course fee of approximately $60.00 is required, in payment for take-home materials and pre-printed workbooks used in this course. An additional materials fee may be required, depending on each student’s personal choice of materials for their project.
